Sleep - The Key to Recovery and Health

If you've been following the CrossFit Koncepts website for any amount of time, you'll know that I post a lot about not only training, but things that are going to enhance your life. Primarily, I post a LOT of information on how to maximize sleep. I know, everybody sleeps - what's the big deal? The big deal is that most people, and I really do mean most people, are not getting enough sleep and not getting the quality of sleep that they need. I'm not talking just about short-term need - I'm talking about the sleep you need to live a long and healthy life. This post is not going to get into the weeds about that. Instead, I wanted to share a couple videos that I stumbled upon that talk about sleep from a very interesting source - a carpenter!

In the first video he talks about his experiences with the CPAP machine and other sleep aids. Even if you don't need a CPAP, or any other appliance, you will benefit from listening to his "discovery" of an off-putting idea of taping your mouth closed while sleeping. Take a few minutes (just under 12 minutes) to listen to his thoughts and experiences regarding mouth taping. You might just be surprised.

The second video is a follow-up video from the first one. In this video he talks about all of the feedback he got from the first video and how much information his carpentry community added to his knowledge in this area. He shares some really good advice about vitamin D supplementation, nasal strips, sleep apps, etc. This video really enhances the already great information from the first video. Once again, take a few minutes (a little over 10 minutes) to watch it. It will be time well spent.

I've listened to both videos several times and have actually implemented several new things into my sleep routine, primarily vitamin D and nasal strips, to enhance my own sleep hygiene. These are small things, along with the things that I already do, that I'm hoping will reap huge benefits in the days, weeks, and years to come.
