I've mentioned Dan John a number of times on this blog, and you can be sure that you'll see more of him in the future. I'm bringing him up because of a concept that he passed on a while ago about the basic movement patterns. According to Dan they are: Push, Pull, Squat, Hinge and Carry. If you've been in the gym for any amount of time then you are already familiar with the Push, Pull and Squat. Dan's inclusion of the Hinge and the Carry to the list of the basic movement patterns is an act of genius. They have both been out there forever - but it took the mind of Dan John to bring it all together. You have to wonder how much Sctoch was sacrificed for this revelation! :)
