Kettlebells on Yahoo.com!?!?

KBChic Just wanted to pass on this link (thanks again to Paul H. for pointing it out to me) concerning using Kettlebells to burn 300 calories in 15 minutes.  As you read the article you'll see that they recommend doing the Overhead Press, the Deck Squat, the Swing-Catch-Squat, and the Tactical Lunge. Okay... I can see mentioning the Overhead Press and Tactical Lunge as good exercises with kettlebells for a rookie to try.  What I can't imagine is having someone (who doesn't have any hands-on training from an RKC) attempting to do a Deck Squat (with a KB) or the Swing-Catch-Squat!?!? Can you say "a quick visit to the Oral Surgeon"?

Anyway, there is also a link to a slideshow on the Self Magazine website.  Enjoy!

"All pulling is pushing through the heels..."

"All pulling is pushing through the heels" is a quote from strength athlete Dan John (if you don't know who he is check out his website or his videos on YouTube).  This is a great quote because it sets the foundation for everything from the Deadlift to the Snatch.  It precludes any pulling with the arms or shoulders (which is a common mistake made by one and all) and puts the pull where it is supposed to be - in the posterior chain.  The following video is from 2009 and I would warrant a guess that Dan would possibly modify the quote to be "Grip the bar like you were choking it and all pulling is pushing through the heels."

The Women of CrossFit Koncepts

Okay... I'm convinced that we need to do a promo video!  But, I think we need to do a Women of CrossFit Koncepts video!  We've got some amazing athletes that really need to be showcased - not to mention we can start a fan club, shoot a calendar, etc.  Maybe I'm getting a little ahead of myself but... let's do this!!!

Check out this video for an idea of what can be done:

Oh My Freakin' Gawd!?!?

Has the idiocy really gone this far?  I mean come on - REALLY?

Gofit
Either this is a marketing idea gone awry or it's an act of desperation on some uninformed / un-trained fitness trainers part. Have people really gone so far as to redesign the kettlebell so that it countours to your forearm?  What manner of outright stupidity is this?  Let's see... we'll cut a groove in the KB so that when you flip it over the top of your hand (which you shouldn't be doing, but they don't know that) and you can slam it even harder over more surface area of the forearm?!?!

BTW - if anyone has this DVD I'm dying to see it!!! :P
