In Remeberence: 09/11/01

It's hard to believe that it's been nine years since the attacks on the World Trade Center.  Like many of you, I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing when the first plane hit.  The ensuing confusion and disbelief of the first strike was nothing compared to the realization that it was the first of several coordinated attacks.

The media, and most Americans, have forgotten what it felt like that day to watch people jump to their deaths from the upper floors of the WTC instead of burning alive.  I haven't forgotten - and I never will.  I think we should see those images every day to keep the pain fresh in our minds so that we will remember what our warriors are risking their lives for every single day.

A different take on using Kettlebells?

You know, there's nothing wrong with taking the basic Kettlebell skills and integrating them with some other form of exercise - as long as you have a strong understanding of the baseline skills.  Unfortunately that isn't always the case.  Being able to mimic the basic skills with a light KB doesn't mean you know how to use them "safely and effectively" - it just means that it looks like you know how to use them.

There are a lot of "let the customer beware" situations out there in the fitness world - especially in regards to KB's.  The following video (while I'm sure the presenter is sincere and well intentioned) is just another one of many that you'll find.

Labor Day Workout and Cookout - 09/6/10

  Labor_day
For those of you who aren't going out of town this weekend to celebrate the end of summer we are planning on having one workout on Monday at 1100 AM that will be followed by a cookout (sometime after 1200 PM).   If you are interested in attending please RSVP so that we can plan the food requirements and fire up the grills!  Happy Labor Day!

Amazing Grace

This is another one of those workouts that, by all appearances, should be pretty easy - until you start doing it that is!  We did two versions of this workout - one with straight KB lifts and the other with "open hand" or H2H with the KB lifts.  To say that the H2H version was more intense and challenging would be an understatement!

  • 05 W.O.P.
  • 05 KB Snatch

Have a good time with this one... and keep an eye on the KB if you attempt H2H Snatches!
